Cooking with Lars

Cooking with Lars was established in 2017 and now offers take-out, classes and small-party catering.

Lars grew up in a family that loves to cook and bake and the seed was planted at a young age. His experiences in the culinary arts range from deli manager, baker, US Navy galley watch captain, fish production, sous chef, chef de cuisine and food lab technician. He earned education from St. Paul Tech College-Culinary Arts Program and the Culinary Institute of America-California. He is a Certified Food Manager and has received his Master Gardener certificate from University of Wisconsin-Extension.

Each encounter has added to his knowledge and passion for cooking. Working with locally sourced ingredients is important to him and he is known for his progressive, creative style.

Lars lives with his family in Bayfield, Wisconsin. The Chequamegon Bay Area has become their home and community; where they find adventure and inspiration everyday.

I could not have asked for a better experience working with Lars.

“I could not have asked for a better experience working with Lars. I hosted a workshop retreat in November, and Lars’ meals that he provided for our lunches and dinners each day were so hearty and soulful and beautifully prepared and delicious. We could not stop raving about the brussels sprouts and mushroom hash that he created, as well as the wild rice soup and Alaskan salmon that he prepared.

Everything was locally sourced and in season. But not only the food, but also Lars’ spirit was so warm and friendly and open. It was such a pleasure having him come to the home every day to talk about the food and present it to everyone. Absolutely hope to work with Lars again on a future retreat and for other events ahead. Will recommend him to anyone who asks.” -Nicole C.

...like watching one of the best cooking shows...

...was not just a delicious meal but an extraordinary experience.

“We wanted our anniversary dinner with friends to be special and asked Lars to make it happen. He did more than that, preparing a three-course menu in our home that was not just a delicious meal but an extraordinary experience. We’ll not forget that night!” -Dennis M.

...look forward to more of “cooking with Lars” this winter!

“During the last two winters we had some cooking classes with Lars. They were educational, enjoyable and delicious. Lars tailored the focus of each class to what we wanted to learn more about to enhance our kitchen skills. We are very happy with the results and look forward to more of “cooking with Lars” this winter!”

The experience was great and free-flowing...

“The experience was great and free-flowing – my friend and I are always looking for new ideas and cooking methods. Who knew that a bag of root vegetables could be transformed into a stir fry? We high-fived after getting the proper sear on Tofu and Salmon. We loved the way that the first and second courses were tied together with seasonings and a few similar ingredients. The concentrated apple cider was a star ingredient – we consumed every bit of it. And, I no longer fear my mandolin slicer.” – Sharon S.
